“Death is nothing to us.” – Lucretius
There was a time
When movies played
Our dreams and crimes
In light and shade.
Who made the movies
Made the world,
From winorlose
To boymeetsgirl,
Like Fox and Mayer,
Lang, Renoir,
De Mille, the Warners,
Katz and Garbo.
But now the best
That we can do
Are these two pests,
Pascal and Rudin,
Whose films make naught
But weak reflections,
A hint of rot,
The corpse complexion
Of cavecaught oughts
And ones that spray
The wall with analogue
Fire’s fake flames.
Death, which once
Was nothing to us,
Has now become
Our terminus.
