The City of Ottawa’s website was apparently hacked Friday night.

Ottawa.ca displayed a black and white page Friday with a message saying the website had been hacked. The message named an Ottawa police officer and prominently featured a gif of a dancing banana.

“We can destroy everything, this is a flex of our power. Please, test us,” the message read.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Friday, the hacked message disappeared and was replaced with a notice that the account has been suspended.

The named police officer, Joel Demore, is a detective who investigated a ‘swatting’ case in May, in which a 16-year-old Ottawa youth was accused of making fake calls to emergency services across North America.
