The Paris attacks have been so convenient for so many people in high places. Given enough panic, they must think they can frighten people into accepting anything at all.

TIL the Ben Franklin quote, “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety” was used to defend the authority of a legislature to govern in the interests of collective security – nearly the opposite of how it is interpreted today.
