Scam o’ the Day: Pen your way to the Penitentiary

Prison garden gnome has a sad

It must have seemed like a good idea at the time. The time would, presumably, have been sometime after Happy Hour, as you’d have to be drunk or crazy to think this would actually work. Still, we like the audacity of posting the same ad for a fraudulent scheme six separate times on Canadian Craigslist rival Kijiji.

I mean, the Toronto real estate market is tight, but it’s no Vancouver, you know what I mean? No need for this madness.

To wit:

Job letter needed for mortgage purpose…we pay up to $500/$600

Date Listed
23-Jul-14
Address
Toronto, ON

We are looking for job letter for mortgage files

We pay upto $500-$600 for per job letter

If you are in a big position in a company it’s your great chance to make extra money. The only job you will do receive a phone call from the bank.

Type of jobs : Account, management, IT, Administration, Sales, Engineering and other

We pay $300 for 40K-50k job
——> $400 for 50K-60K job
——> $500 for for 60K to 80K jobs
——> $600 for 80K + jobs

Important Safety Warning:
Avoid fraud by meeting all sellers in-person to pay for items. Kijiji does not offer any transaction or payment services.

Yep. Somebody out there thinks rando high-rollers sift through free online classified sites looking for opportunities to commit fraud. Real estate fraud. Bank fraud. As in ten years.

What could possibly go wrong???

Toronto Police Service: You’re welcome.
