Film Friday: The Hacker Wars of #Anonymous

The Hacker Wars

The Hacker Wars

Of The Hacker Wars we have spoken oft before: the documentary by Vivien Lesnik Wiseman is the definitive cinematic depiction of the golden days of hacktivism, LulzSec, AntiSec, and the rest, and also of their inevitable fall. A fall, we must add, made slightly more inevitable by Hector Xavier Monsegur, aka Sabu, the most hated man in Anonymous. As well, documented in the documentary.

Monsegur’s reported recent viewing of the film hasn’t done anything to alleviate that famous temper; quite the opposite. Similarly, the book Hacker, Hoaxer, Whistleblower, Spy: The Many Faces of Anonymous by Dr. Gabriella Coleman of McGill University, holder of the Wolfe Chair in Scientific and Technological Literacy, has angered Monsegur, although he appears to have deleted the tweets where he claimed it was flat-out lying about his own words. Which is good, because the FBI presumably has copies of those transcripts, as well as Coleman and the other participants.

Anyhoodle, kittens, we know you’re big fans of great work here, and The Hacker Wars is great, and important work. And it is our Film Friday Feature. Enjoy (again, as long as the YouTube lasts, but you should also buy a copy legit and support a great project).

As our cocktail pairing with this, we will suggest the Blood & Tears cocktail. If you don’t know why, well, watch the movie.

Ingredients
2 oz Dark Rum (Don Q Gran Anejo)
2 oz Horchata
1/2 oz Honey
1-2 slices Bell Pepper – red bell pepper
1/2 Chili Pepper
splash Bitters (Peychaud)
stick Cinnamon – for garnish

Directions
Muddle honey, bell pepper and chili pepper in the bottom of a cocktail shaker.
Add rum, horchata, bitters and ice, and shake vigorously.
Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a cinnamon stick.

Drink three of these and then get on Twitter, all weepy. Lather, rinse, repeat.
