Unknownsec announces #OpWBKKK against the Westboro Baptist Church and the Ku Klux Klan

UnknownSec, this week’s hot new crew on the block, isn’t wasting any time. Two days ago they took down Facebook more or less by accident, testing out a botnet they claim they didn’t think would be powerful enough to effect the giant network.

Oopsie.

Last night they announced a new initiative — a crusade, really — against a couple of perennially popular preachy targets: The Westboro Baptist Church and the Ku Klux Klan.

Of course there’s a press release on Pastebin: there always is. And here it is. Note all [sic] and apparently written in a bit of a rush, so we have edited for brevity and readability; you can click the link to read the original if you prefer. The header of the Pastebin made reference, via #FuckKKKFriday, to the old days of AntiSec and their #FuckFBIFriday. Ah, the good old days. Two years ago.

To the press release!

What is #OPWBKKK?

#OpWBKKK is a operation we are launching because hate of race, religion or anything is not accept able and we must take action. We must systematically destroy any and all websites that we deem hate websites.

We vow to hack, deface, dox, DoS, hijack, database leak, admin takeover, 404 and DNS terminate all such hate websites. To the hate groups on the internet: We have grown tired of your hate, and you will see the results. Cyber war has been declared on hate websites.

What will we do after the hacks? Will we destroy the databases? No, we will leak them to the public so they may use it in anyway they want.

MESSAGE:
Your incomprehensible actions, and your reluctance to accept the Freedom and Equality that every single human being possesses by right from birth, causes the birth to hatred and worldwide Racism. After the first World War, your ideology plunged the world into chaos. You took over a plague, known as anti-Semitism, and made sure that racism was drilled into our collective consciousness. Your misdirected politics and your hate-filled crusade against humanity have not only blurred your perception, but also affected countries worldwide. You have combined the ideals of industrialization with the abomination of mass murder, a circumstance that led to destruction of human life, on a scale never seen before.

You are still causing injuries and killing people. You intimidate people that go on the streets protest for their ideals, and attack your political opponents. This behavior can no longer be tolerated…

The KKK recently made the news when an apparent “rogue cell” of the KKK attempted to raise money for Darren Wilson, the police officer who shot Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. The “official” KKK repudiated the action, and the world was treated to the spectacle of a group even the KKK wouldn’t associate with, trying to raise money for a police officer who is still on salary, and on indefinite leave.

The Westboro Baptist Church made it known early on in the events in Ferguson that they intended to picket Michael Brown’s funeral. As has become their pattern over the past year or more, they failed to materialize on the actual day. It is now normal for cordons of volunteers to stand between the WBC and the event or people they are protesting. At Sandy Hook and on many other occasions since it is a strange coalition of locals, civil rights activists, protesters, Anonymous, off-duty military and police officers, and bikers who formed a human wall between the WBC and the object of its rage, and often between the WBC and the real object of its attention: the cameras.

Also on the target list is Stormfront.org, the White Supremacist website.

And now for a little detective work wrapped around a history lesson: At Sandy Hook, Anonymous and UGNazi combined forces to go up against the WBC and the KKK. In that case, the KKK wished to participate in the human wall opposing the WBC; it didn’t matter. Down went their website, sending the message to keep the hoods at home that day. UGNazi hacked several WBC Twitter accounts (some remain suspended to this day) and merrily trolled the presumably-outraged followers with gay porn and hilariously inappropriate tweets.

The petition to the White House asking the President to formally declare the Westboro Baptist Church a hate group was started by Anonymous at the time and is still extant. It boasts 367,000 signatures and…no action from the White House except an announcement that they will not be taking action.

The UGNazi connection is important because Unknownsec has much of the flavour of UGNazi, and appears to be picking the same targets, using the same methods, as the UGNazi of old. Prior to April of this year, Unknownsec wasn’t just unknown; it was nonexistent. After a brief revival and engagement in #OpFerguson, UGNazi retreated again into the shadows which the 2012 arrests had thrown it.

Could UGNazi be Unknownsec? As the poet says, when you hear hoofbeats think horses, not zebras.

Unknownsec is LizardSquad, as we speculated yesterday, a fact made patently obvious once you realize the URL for the LizardSquad Facebook page is actually https://www.facebook.com/itsunknownsec.

Yeah, I should have caught that. It was a long day.

In any case, here we have Unknownsec going up against Stormfront, the KKK, and the WBC, a triumvirate of old UGNazi nemeses. And not a threesome that most people would shed tears over. There’s a rumble coming to Bigotrytown, and we think we know who’s bringing it.

They should have expected them.
